Charles was the fourth born of eight children in an evangelical Christian home. He surrendered to ministry in 1983 and has since served the Lord in many ministerial capacities including Christian School Teacher, Music Minister, Youth Pastor and Staff Pastor with Decatur Baptist Church. Charles’ bi-vocational ministry has included a fifteen year career as a bank officer and he holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration along with his Bible College Training.

For eight years prior to moving to Decatur Charles was Music Minister for Gant Lake Baptist Church in Webster, Florida. He also served there as Sunday School Teacher and led the Youth Ministry. Charles was introduced to Decatur Baptist Church in 1996 by his brother, David Butts, who is a missionary to Romania supported in part by Decatur Baptist Church. In January 1997, Charles and his wife Sharon moved themselves and their three children from Florida to Decatur to become involved in Discipleship and to learn the philosophy of ministry taught at Decatur Baptist Church. While still a layman Charles has served as a Bible Study Director, Drama Ministry Leader and participated in the music ministry.

Charles joined the church staff in August 2000 as Facility Manager. In November of that same Year he took on the added role of Adult Bible Study Pastor. He served in that dual role until January 2005 when the church brought on Larry Waye in the expanded role Pastor to Adult Ministries.

Charles and his wife Sharon have been married since 1982 and they have three children: Caleb is 23, Jessica is 21, and Amanda is 19.
